Tips for Selling Your Home
Here are some tips for selling your home, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Exterior:
If the outside, or "curb appeal" looks good, people will more than likely want to see what's on the inside.
- Keep the lawn and landscaping nicely manicured.
- Give the front door area "a welcome feeling." A fresh coat of paint on the front door looks great.
Interior:
- Pay special attention to the kitchens and bathrooms.
- Remove clutter and too-large furniture that make rooms look small.
- Look for anything that indicates a maintenance problem.
- If the basement shows signs of dampness, seal the walls.
Tips for showings:
- Keep countertops cleared.
- Replace all burned-out light bulbs.
- Open all drapes and window blinds.
- Put pets in cages or take them to a neighbor.
- Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink.
- Don't leave laundry in the washer/dryer.
- Clean or replace dirty or worn carpets.
- Play soft music.
- Burn wood in the fireplace on cold days; otherwise, the fireplace should be clean.
